RHINOS & RINOCRACY – RECOVERY

As a recent article about Cornell alumni doing rhinoceros research and conservation begins, “There is the Nobel prize, and then there’s the Ig Nobel Prize.” This thirty-year old satirical prize honors unusual or seemingly trivial scientific achievements that “first make people LAUGH, and then THINK.” The Cornell team was awarded one for devising an improved – albeit inverted – method to relocate rhinos for on-going conservation efforts.

Like the rhinos being humbly transported feet-up through the air, the Chief RINO of Rinocracy.com has recently endured his own somewhat ignoble event and been a bit “upside-down.” In this case, a hip fracture has been surgically repaired but will require several weeks of in-home rehabilitation. We trust that there will be a satisfactory conclusion, but for some period of time, the Chief’s focus will be on recovery. In the interim, as the world won’t stop spinning and, as you try to laugh and think, we will accept your thoughtful (and even non-political) submissions for guest blogs.

  1. So sorry to hear you’re laid up, Doug, may a successful and rapid healing process be underway in comfort. This Discouraged Democrat shares the views of Rhino Republicans, will be missing your thoughtful, well-considered, well balanced posts, and eager for the lead Rhino to be on his feet again.

  2. Doug—-Now appears the perfect time for me to challenge you to resume our tennis matches of, what, 62 years ago. I always tried to seek an advantage and this appears to be a propitious time!Damn, Doug, sorry to hear about your problem and hope you rehab goes well. Keep us posted. Fred

  3. Oh no! How awful! Please keep us posted on your recovery or ask Heather to do so…or I’ll be worried (worrying being my main talent). Godspeed, dear leader!

  4. Doug, sorry to hear about your injury. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I would say “break a leg”, but that would be redundant.

  5. I hope your transport to and from your surgery was not upside down from the ankles and wish you a speedy and full recovery.
